Wellness Initiative
Improving health literacy
in Boston's Chinatown
community and beyond
ABOUT
Tufts Community Wellness Initiative (TCWI) was started in 2015 by students at the Tufts University Health Science Campus in Boston, MA. Our mission is to improve health literacy and disease prevention through interactive seminars on health and disease topics that particularly affect our surrounding Chinatown community. Students at the Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Nutrition collaborate and deliver comprehensive presentations on the epidemiology, risk factors, pathophysiology, and symptoms of a given disease. Each presentation concludes with practical, evidence-based, and culturally relevant recommendations on disease prevention and management that participants are encouraged to discuss with their health care provider. We aim to reconstruct the health concerns of our community as opportunities to educate, empower, and make more informed decisions about one's own health.
